Cali, capital of the state of Valle del Cauca, is the third largest city of Colombia with close to 2.5 million people. It was founded in 1536 by the Spanish conquistador Sebastián de Belalcázar.
It's elevation is 1000 mts above sea level and is nestled between the Cauca river and the Western Andes mountain range. It is the largest city in the south west of Colombia and gateway to the Pacific coast, it is a three hour drive from Cali to the Pacific port of Buenaventura.
Average temperature is high 25 C/ 77 F during the day, but can climb up to 34 C/ 93 F.
Cali is known for the cheerful attitude of its inhabitants, local plates like sancocho de gallina in leña, tamales, chuleta apanada, for being the salsa capital of the world and because all its inhabitants, know as Caleños, end most of their sentences with vé, "see."
