Rio Claro (clear river) Natural Reserve is a beautiful crystalline river that runs through a hot and humid tropical forest that is flanked by 600 meter canyon walls.

It is two hours and forty-five minutes, 154 kms, away from Medellin on the road to Bogotá.

It is one of the most breathtaking and important natural reserves in Colombia. It has a tremendous biodiversity and many natural attractions that make it very popular for eco-tourism.

The Jungle Adventure is an activity packed expedition that starts with a 5:30 am departure from Medellin, arriving in Rioclaro at 8:30 am to start off the day at 9 with a 2 hour raft ride through the jungle amidst low hanging trees and towering marble mountain walls. The beauty of the jungle and the pristine waters will enchant you while our expert raft guides will share their extensive knowledge on the geography and natural life of the Rioclaro area.

After approximately two hours on the river we debark on a beach and open field where our vehicle will collect the raft and oars but we return to the river wearing our life vests and helmets to float down the slow and peaceful river for 400 meters (1300 feet) to a beach bed where we land and begin a twenty minute trek through the jungle until we reach a cave entrance where we will walk-wade twenty mins through the cave and its enormous caverns and surreal beauty while listening to hundreds of thousands of guácharo birds protest loudly in their hauntingly eerie cry, a sound you will never forget or ever hear anywhere else in the world! The guácharo bird is a cave dwelling bird that only comes out at night to eat fruits and seeds in the surrounding countryside. Flashlights provided. We exit on the other end of the cave for a brief walk through the jungle and then open fields where we will encounter our vehicles.

From here we go do adrenaline pumping rock climbing via ferrata! No previous knowledge is needed to do this. Despite its intimidating scenario of rock cliff in the jungle foliage, the set-up is user friendly with iron rungs encrusted into the rock, safety harnesess with double safety line and a third rest line, helmets and gloves. After a short introduction and briefing by our expert guides you will be on your way to an experience of a lifetime!

After this final activity it will be close to 5 pm and time to head back to Medellin for a scheduled arrival between 8-9 pm.

The climate is hot and humid, so don’t forget to dress accordingly, and insect repellent is pretty much a must. Bring bathing gear, towel, and extra clothing, we will be getting wet, dirty and sweaty!

On the raft ride we go under some small water falls so EVERYTHING gets wet, so anything such as cell phones, cameras, or any other personal items that cannot get wet can be left safely in our vehicles.
